Research shows that “to belong is to live long.” Build a strong, supportive, inspiring community. Make friends who are different from you. Have younger friends to keep up with the times and to share your wisdom.
The closer people are to us, the greater influence they have on how we experience life. Don't feel guilty about limiting your interactions with negative people. And don't waste your time on changing them.
Take a page from Sunny: She started taking Spanish and drawing classes after her retirement. She continues playing piano several times a week. She gardens and she goes to a swimming pool twice a week.
Expand your inner universe as much as you can for a richer life: Your appreciation of art and beauty, your enjoyment of nature walks, the poems you have memorized, the songs that you can hum. These inner resources are yours no matter what.
Having a reason to wake up helps us live up to 7 good years longer. The world needs more interventions. We are killing ourselves here, be it climate change, or conflict. We need to put ourselves on the line more.
Want to live independently well into your 70s and 80s? Prioritize fruits and veggies, occasional fish or chicken. Avoid processed food, sugar, and red meat. Preserve your health, energy, and resilience. They become much more critical as we age.
